Painting – ideas on how to involve Egyptians religion and time.

Painting

For this I want to start working with a sketching how I can use and manipulate the background to add more ideas with time and Egyptian religion. I am going to sketch out some ideas and then try to start adding them on. but i also might just experiment with random ideas that I don’t want to use encase they work better.

Things i want to work from:

I want to take inspiration from these because:

  1. I really like the positioning of this one. due to the fact you can not see the middle of the flower making it look more natural instead of being angle and placed.
  2. I liked the idea you can see the middle so it would help to paint/ draw the middle of the flower if i wanted to. it does also look natural as well.
  3. I chose this one as I love how you can see the colours of the petals but it also shows how fragile they are due to how they give the look of nearly being transparent.
  4. This is a beautiful painting from Egyptians of their blue water lotus, I want to try and include this into the painting as this is where it has come from and I think it would be very respectful to add in some type of their style of painting.

Me Doing My Sketches:

These are some photos of me while making the sketch page from the inspiration photos I found online. I used as many different mediums as i have assess to right now (expect paint, as I don’t have any paper that can handle paint)

At first I thought I wasn’t that keen on the style the Egyptian art but now after using different style I do quite like it. Both of the flower style caught my eye. this means I want to experiment with both and see if I can involve both.

The Final Look Of The Sketch page……

This is the final look of the sketch page. this page helped a lot, just to see how each different material would look when using it for the same thing. i do like the black and white drawings but I do feel like it defeats the point in having the blue and yellow symbolism. so I feel its best to stick with a colour approach and also I feel the coloured pencils worked best even though I still really do like the felt pens

the next thing i can do is try and add them to my works within the studio as i want to use the background to influence the position of the flowers and i cant do that by practice. so for now I am going to do what I have done here with some of my other ideas.

Drawing – Drawing on Cardboard.

Drawing – Drawing on Cardboard.

Drawing

For this online class I knew I would be drawing on cardboard but I couldn’t find my charcoal so I ended up drawing with pastels. But at first I was put into a smaller group of 3 and I had to do a 10 min drawing of both of the other students and then one more.

My 10 Min Drawings…..

This was my first 10 mins drawing. It is really hard to do life drawing this way as we are all trying to draw each other at the same time. This means that no one is staying still and the lighting is always moving around the person.

I really like this piece but I think that the facial shape could be better and that I should have done more detail on hair.

My Second 10 Min Drawing…..

This was my second 10 min drawing. I am not keen on this piece at all because I feel I could have done a lot better. I feel I could have made an improvement on every aspect on this drawing.

This one was hard as she wasn’t looking at the screen and she would keep moving from this angle to look at someone on the call. Due to her drawing as well.

I do find 10 min drawing difficult as I don’t feel I have enough time to make the drawing look right. In terms of proportion and getting the features within the right place on the face.

My Third 10 Min Drawing…..

While making the first two I lost track of time so I ended up with about 5 mins to do this drawing. So I just concentrated on the face and getting the size and features right.

I feel that I did improve from the first one to the last. I do think I would rather spend some time doing it first though, so I just get a better understanding of how to use the material so I can then concentrate on how I can use that to make a face.

Drawing On Cardboard…..

This was my first drawing on cardboard i really liked the process of doing this and the effect it has. how I created this was I used pastels to cover the whole background with black and then I rubbed it in.

I then used the rubber to start taking away from black background, this would give the effect of highlight. I has 30 mins to do this, so I decided to add white to top as she was wearing a white shirt. but also to where there was a lot of highlight (e.g. nose ring, nose and check bone).

My Second Cardboard Drawing…..

At first I preferred the other drawing to this one. I defiantly found the first one easier than this one. That is because this girl had the window behind her so it was hard to decided where the light is on face.

I now don’t know what one I like better. I do like drawing like this, so I think I might look into developing it and see if I could use it within a drawing I will do of a skull. As I have just recently found a rat skull.

Rat Skull

Rat Skull

skull study

Last year I found a whole (dead) rat. I wanted to clean it but as I don’t have that much experience I decided to get some help. This is the skull of that rat (I have the entire skeleton).

This was a task that we were set in a drawing class. We had 10 minutes to draw an interesting object in our flats, So I decided that I would pick my Rat skull. This Rat skull is around 4.5 cm lengthways and 2 cm tall.

When drawing this skull I knew I did not have long, so I started by sketching with a 5H pencil. Then I went in using a fine liner (0.6 mm). I used both the fine liner and a 5B pencil to add detailing and shadowing. This is as much as I got done within the time limit.

Next…..

Next I am planning to use one of my other skulls (Fallow doe (deer)). To be able to have more time and a bigger scale. this will allow me to add a lot more detail into the piece.

Drawing task – left and right hands

Drawing task – left and right hands

drawing task

For this task I had to pick a few items and place them in a certain way. Then I would have to draw these items, the catch is we would have to draw it once with my right hand (my drawing hand) and then with my left hand (my weak hand).

Left Hand Drawing…..

This was my left handed drawing. This turned out so much better than i thought it would have been. the skull was really good (I didn’t get to do the teeth as i ran out of time) we had about 10-20 minutes to do these.

I chose to do a fallow does skull (deer skull) and a cactus that I have. and i chose these because they are quite different in shape and form so i wanted to try different shapes with my “bad” hand.

Right Hand Drawing…..

This was my right hand drawing, this turn out a lost worse than I thought it did. I know I was more worried about this drawing because I knew this hand should look better than my left. I had also added a rat skull within this piece as I didn’t have time to do this teeth.

Side By Side View…..

These are they both together and really shows how similar both of my hands are when drawing. This really does consider if I am ambidextrous, as both hands are basically the same.
