natural inspiration from walks

artist research

While exploring etchings I started to look into insperation on how I can develop my etchings and I remembered the chapman brothers, but also a massive inspiration is the world around us. I have some photos of places i went that inspired me but also about the chapman brothers.

Nature inspires alot of my work as drawings but as this year I have been exploring and descoving/ studing nature more. I started to think about and learn much more about colours and how nature uses them. Below are some photos I took while out n nature that inspired or intrested me.

These are some of the places I went and thing I saw that inspired me, all of the colours are there for a reason weather it to draw things in, to send a warning or to camouflage. When looking at this side of colour it helped me to understand on how I can use colour within my art. By this I mean how I can draw a persons eye through my works or to one section of the work before another.
The mushroom shown in the photo is a brightly coloured rare mushroom in the waxcap family ( scarlet waxcap). They are rare due to how they will only grow in grass lands that haven’t been touched by pesticides and chemicals, the bright colour makes the mushroom stand out from the grass and bring a persons eye straight to it. For art this would help people to be drawn to a section of the artwork before another this could be useful for a body off work being presented or a massive piece with a deeper meaning.

the Foxthe fox fits into the nature but also seems like it’s a random colour of orange, this shows how you can use colour more freely and have some that stand out really strong in an image it doesn’t always have to fit in, it’s more abstract.

white flowers flowers are bright and colourful and stand out to help bees find them to be pollinated, therefore the bright colours make them stand out and attract people towards them in order to help themselves. This could be used in art in a way that I’d you have a bright colour scattered around a piece of art the persons eye will scan across the whole pierce of art and make the art look more of a whole piece with the same colour linking different elements.
Trees in the Woodall thought the trees are a different colour to the ground around them, they still are harder to see. This shows how you have to take a longer look than normal to be able to see them. This could be used in art as a way of making people look deeper into the art and also making something seen but not as straight away.
Grass on the tree this shows how different things in nature can stand out and contrast against each other, this could be used well in art to make one thing stand out more than the other.

moss on tree the moss hides the tree really well but you can still see it, using this technique shows how something can be so in your face but still hidden.

Sculpture

One of my ideas for the head space project within sculpture is drugs and mental health. A lot (not all) people do sue drugs to help them get through depression and other mental health problems but they are not always linked.

I wanted to develop on from what we did in the beginning of this project where we made head molds for plaster and also made a box within woodwork.

Mushrooms (drugs and metal health)….

when I thought about a way to show metal health and drugs i thought of mushrooms first as not only do people connect them to drugs but it growth of mental health. mushrooms can be found on dead trees, these trees are normal hard wood (e.g. oak and beech trees). They are also found on tree stumps and fallen trees/branches.

These are some photos I took that I found inspirational.

My Links To Headspace…..

The mushroom would show how that persons mental health had died and now is growing into something more dangerous. This is through how they grown on dead things and they are normally seen as poisonous. Then they would also link to drugs and this would be involved in making your headspace better as you escape the bad thoughts.

Link Back To Before Induction…..

These are some of my ideas I want to try within this idea and see how each on them work. One of them involved the my box ideas as well.

I want to try this idea with clay and also plaster, I think they clay will work better due to being able to stick things to it better.

Artist Research – CPS

Andy Goldsworthy is a photographer and sculptor (land artist). He uses the nature around him to create aesthetically pleasing artworks that exsaggerates the beauty of the environment he is in.

When making his art, Andy Goldsworthy makes sure to use natural materials. Then he photographs the work piece. He is also interested within the decay and death of his piece and the natural materials he used as they start to fade away into the land it once grow from.

Andy Goldsworthy is one of my favourite artist due to what materials he uses and how he uses them. But also how he also had the interest of how nature takes back the artwork he has made.

Studio Space (start of true cps post)

Andy Goldsworthy studio space, Due to him working with the nature that he finds when he is out, is the environment he is in.

Goldsworthy respects his studio space as it is the land we live on. It is a calms and tranquil place, where you can just feel the art he is working on. Although sometimes it isn’t a quite as you would think. Some of his work has been on beaches and public land. This has involves people having to move around his work. As annoying as this might sounds it can also be seen as the people are now part of the artwork.

He used all the materials he can find when he is out. He uses leaves for colours and sticks as lines, he has so specialists materials but he uses very specialist techniques to make the art.

The photo below is supposedly his studio, This studio gives a very nature feeling due to how it looks like an abounded look. the way in which I would say he uses his studio is he makes the art and lets it be around him while making other art. this gives a good way of getting inspiration and understand. This and the look of the studio to me gives it a more homely, comforting and inviting look/feel.

Holly leaves

Holly leaves

nature

This was my first time trying to paint a holly leaf I found, while out in a woodland.

I have used some watercolours for this. But I wanted to keep the colours bold and dark, so I didn’t use much water. For the shadowing I should have added some dark blue, as that is more realistic. I could have also made the lighting better and will probably need to buy a lamp, instead of trying to deal with the one light in my room.

Next…..

Next I am going to be drawing a holly bush. Exploring how to add depth to it while keeping it realistic and focusing on the form and shape of the holly leaves. To help improve my skills in realism and perspective. I am also hoping to do some sketches of holly leaves and using different materials to explore what would work best.
