Personal Painting Project

A lot of my work is based on how I feel and also what is happening in my life. If I have something in my head ill do a project on it as its a good way to get it out without talking about it.

today I decided I wanted some time alone so I went to the studio and started drawing. I decided to draw how I felt and I found an image i really liked to I used it as my reference ( it is not my photo).

My Process of making the drawing…..

For this I used a Derwent Academy pencils (B) to mark out how big and where I wanted everything to give me a base and marking to go off of. First thing i did was mark out where the very dark black is and put it in just to get something on the paper to start.

I used inscribe soft Greystone pastels to do this, I started with a grey and used this as a base on the forehead. for lighter patches I would put less down but the darker areas i would layer it until I needed to start adding a lighter black.

Then I decided to go into the left eye. this was hard but then kind of easy to do. I started with doing the grey and then started adding black to the inner bit of the eye. To be able to get the wrinkles within the skin and the lash line I used a charcoal pencil to get very thin lines.

I carried on with this technique while doing the whole thing. when it came to the hair I put a thin layer of a lighter black down and then went over and picked up the marking off the floor with the side of the charcoal and this worked really well. For the bread I put down a light layer of black and then used the charcoal pencil to add in the hair details.

The finished piece…..
