drawing – tasks

Drawing

form his whole project I feel the tasks where the hardest part for me. this is because when they where set i had something going on in my life and i really couldn’t do them.

from one of the task it really helped me understand more on how to express feelings through art. this then led me to do a piece of art in the middle of the night.

though this piece I had to think about what marks and objects to draw to convey how i feel. i found this challenging but i did develop this is to a more directed piece and it will be in my next post.

another task we did was to go outside and make something out of nature, i feel i could have developed this idea a lot more than i did. i feel i could use this idea more within my work too see where i could take it. (i have lost the photos for these)

Print – Derrick Castle Lino cut artist

print

Derrick is an Lino cut artist, who i found on Instagram. he is work is really detailed and so I looked through his work to try and understand how I might be able to present hair in a detailed way but not so much that it look confusing.

i looked at these images a i noticed there have detailed but he has kept it really simple giving it a really nice effect. but he also focuses a lot on how the hair flows and i feel this give its the most texture and realism.

this artist will really help with how i can do the main on my lion and skull piece.

Drawing – shadows

Drawing – shadows

Drawing

This is what i have drawn on to the glass I was showing how even if someone says they are ok behind that lie can be so many feeling and thought taking up their mind. i used thick black pen so when putting a light on it to make a shadow it should come out more clear.

this was the results of the shadows I am really happy with it but I would have to think of a way to get a stronger light to make the piece even clearer and better. I really do like this idea and i want to try it more and think of better way to present it.

Drawing – drawing people and glass

Drawing – drawing people and glass

Drawing

This is a drawing i did to show how you can look at someone and see them calm when there could be loads of emotions going around there head.

This was me marking out the masking tape from the drawing I made, then I started to use a marker to draw within the tape. this was easier than I thought to do and I was just going to leave it on the glass but then I saw the shadow it made so I decided to look into making shadows as well.

these are the shadows that they made (you can just see them) I really liked this idea and decided to do more to look into it.

final look of the glass

print – fennec fox skull (lino print)

print – fennec fox skull (lino print)

Print

This is a fennec fox skull. This lino print is black oil based ink and on paper. The idea behind this is that it shows life and death and how death can also bring life to other things, this then shows time and how over a big part of time we all play our part but also life and death within it. death is a horrible thing but sometimes you need death of one thing for another to live, like how animals kill so they can eat.

I really like this piece and feel I’m getting a lot more confident within shading and how to use the lino print to create the look of depth. for these I use a scalpel as I find I have a lot more control.

link – Light and Darkness – Yutavia George

As I am looking into shadows i saw her work when on a virtual gallery (Trinity buoy whart). I decided to look into these works as they are similar to mine. the collection is called ‘light and darkness’ and mainly shows white and black giving the effect of shadows.

the photo are on the link im not going to put them on here due to copy right, but they are called beyond confinement (and the number of the piece) there was 6 of these. and then there is more, what was in the gallery was the beyond confinement 1,2 and 3.

her work is simple yet seems like there it a lot to get from it. I really like how it is so close up it makes you guess what it is. I feel these are either drawn or painted unlike mine that are actual shadows. but this have given me an idea if i can draw with actual objects to draw a shadow on a wall.

drawing – artist research Tim Noble and Sue Webster

drawing

as i was looking up ideas for another project i came across Tim Noble and Sue Webster. these two artist work together to create many different piece of works.

the main work i am interested in is how they use light to make art. in a project they did together, they used rubbish to create a shadow. these are some of their works.

these are so creative and i really enjoy them in both the idea of using rubbish but also the outcome of the works. this has inspired me to looking into shadows and manipulating light. this has led to me thinking how i can use some glass that i found.

drawing – eye

drawing

this is the eye i drew and painted, i am really happy with how it came out. i used pencils to draw out the plan for the eye, then i started in with the water colour base and started to build this up. to add the finer details i used colour pencils and a white pen.

these last touches really made the realistic effect i was looking for. This really was a turning point for my body of work as it made me connect with the eye more. this was from the idea of eye contact and how the eye is the gateway to the soul.

drawing – skulls

drawing – skulls

drawing

From knowing i didn’t really want to go in the direction of ‘creatures’ from the quick sketches in the woodlands, i wanted to keep doing work but figure out where i wanted to go. so i decided to do something i know as a bridge to somewhere new. so i started to draw skulls.

when i finished this drawing i was so happy with it and got so exited to do another one, so i decided to do another. i decided to do skulls because we trust our skulls to looks after our brains but they cant help us from the inside so it cant protect us from mental health.

this was the second skull i drew, as i was really exited to carry on but while i did this i started to think about they eyes of a human and how there is more on a connections with the eyes, i feel this would be a better way to convey my idea.

after these two skulls i wanted to start looking into human eyes. in my own time i do want to draw more skulls though.

lens – photos over time

lens – photos over time

lens

i decided to look into light over time outside and light over time inside, as these can look very different. so i picked a street light outside and took a photo around once every 2 hours to show how that light changed and how the light from the sun light changes over a day.

Then the second one is how I use my light within an indoor place. so I used a skull in my room as a subject. this looks very different to the outside one as i take a nap in the day so the darkness is broken up plus i don’t normally going to sleep till 2am so the dark time is a lot less.
